North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund Established with $1-Million Gift

October 23 - The North Peace Community Foundation and Interior Savings are excited to announce the creation of the North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund, a transformative initiative aimed at investing $1,000,000 into community programs and services to foster enduring positive impacts throughout the North Peace and Northern Rockies regions over the next two decades.

This initiative, born out of the successful merger between Interior Savings and North Peace Savings and Credit Union earlier this year, pays homage to the founding members of the North. It signifies a resolute dedication to reinvest $1 million of retained earnings back into the community that steadfastly supported and contributed to the credit union over the years.

Credit unions have long since put people before profit as a means to build strong and resilient communities. The North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund strongly reinforces this commitment, allowing Interior Savings to carry forward the legacy initiated by North Peace Savings and Credit Union by ensuring that money circulates locally, supporting vital causes, initiatives, and programming for the benefit of the people and communities in the regions.

Interior Savings selected North Peace Community Foundation to administer the Fund. Lori Ackerman, Chair of the North Peace Community Foundation, conveyed their appreciation at being chosen as the trusted steward of the North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund. "The Foundation is honored to be entrusted with the North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund " says Ackerman. "This new Fund will extend North Peace Savings & Credit Union’s longstanding dedication to giving back in our communities for many years. We are eager to administer this new granting program, supporting essential community service organizations for the advancement of our regions in the North."

The North Peace Savings Community Legacy Fund’s mission is to bolster local charitable projects which support personal success through financial literacy, provide healthy living supports, improve access and availability of food, and support families with children, all of which enhance the health and wellness of communities within the Northern Rockies and North Peace regions.

"Building stronger, more resilient communities is part of our DNA as credit unions," says Brian Harris, CEO at Interior Savings. "And when two credit unions come together as ours did, that community impact is accelerated. We're honored to lend our support to ensure this $1,000,000 Legacy Fund fosters meaningful and sustainable impact in the North Peace and Northern Rockies regions for years to come."

Commencing in 2024, an annual distribution of $50,000 will be allocated for the subsequent 20 years. Specifics regarding grant criteria and the application process will be released by the Foundation in January 2024.

Community service organizations across  the Northern Rockies and North Peace regions are encouraged to register via the Foundation’s website to stay updated on program details in January. Decisions concerning funding allocation will be conducted by the Volunteer Grant Review Committee of the North Peace Community Foundation.
